When Focus Is Essential

Consider this lesson from the jeweler's loupe…

I'm sure you've seen a jeweler's loupe before. A loupe is a handheld monocular device that allows the jeweler to inspect a jewel with greater clarity and precision due to the magnification it provides. A jeweler may look into a 10x loupe to judge the quality of the gem and look into a 30x loupe to inspect tiny cracks, blemishes, and imperfections.

Whichever magnification the jeweler chooses, one thing remains consistent -- a jeweler gets an up-close, focused, and undistracted view of the jewel. Every other visible facet of the outside world is filtered out, and the jeweler's attention can be focused and fixed on the subject at hand. The jeweler can set, repair, or improve upon the gem with that perspective.

Can you imagine if you had that same kind of focus on your goals?

What if you could somehow filter out all other distractions and get an up-close and personal view of your most important priorities or goal? How much easier would it be to achieve it?!

This kind of focus may not be entirely possible in a world full of distractions, emails, calls, push notifications, and videos on youtube -- but with intentionality, focus is attainable for specific periods.

The cost of living in a world full of technology is its endless opportunity for consumption. Your ability to focus on what's most important through the distractions of life will be a significant determinant of your success.

Jim Collins says, "Good is the enemy of great. And that is one of the key reasons why we have so little that becomes great." Don't forego your ultimate goal by going in too many directions.

Focus is essential when working toward your goals and dreams. Be loupe-focused when striving toward what's most important in life.

What goal are you focused on achieving?
